*CAIDOV CONDEMNS ABDUCTION OF SCHOOL CHILDREN AND KILLING OF TEACHER IN OYO STATE*
_“Where is your empathy, Governor Makinde? Innocent children are not statistics” – Gbenga Soloki_
The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence [CAIDOV] has expressed outrage and grief over the recent abduction of school children and the murder of a teacher in Oyo State, calling on Governor Seyi Makinde to demonstrate urgent empathy and decisive action.
In a statement signed by *Gbenga Soloki, Executive Director of CAIDOV*, the organization said the attack represents a dangerous collapse of safety for students and teachers across the state.
“Once again, a school has been attacked. Children torn from their classrooms. A teacher killed for trying to protect his pupils. And yet, life continues as if these innocent lives meant nothing. As if the cries of mothers and the blood of a teacher are just another news cycle,” Soloki stated.
CAIDOV described the situation as a crisis of leadership and security, noting that parents are living in fear, schools are shutting down, and learning has been disrupted, while governance continues as if “Oyo State is at peace”.
*CAIDOV’s 5 Immediate Demands to the Oyo State Government:*
1. *Direct Address to the People*: Governor Makinde should address parents, students and teachers directly to show empathy and reassure the public, beyond written statements.
2. *Priority Rescue Operation*: Declare every abducted child a top priority. Deploy all state security resources and coordinate with federal agencies to set a clear timeline for rescue.
3. *Immediate School Protection*: Fast-track the Safe School Initiative across Oyo State, with perimeter fencing, security personnel, and emergency communication, especially for rural schools.
4. *Justice for Slain Teacher*: Ensure swift investigation and prosecution of the teacher’s killers. Provide real compensation and support to the grieving family.
5. *Emergency Town Hall*: Convene an urgent meeting with parents, students, teachers and education stakeholders to hear their fears and co-design solutions.
“History will not remember roads or slogans. History will ask: When Oyo children were kidnapped, what did Seyi Makinde do? When a teacher died protecting students, did the governor cry with his people or move on?” Soloki asked.
CAIDOV affirmed solidarity with grieving families, traumatized students, and all parents living in fear. The organization demanded action over optics, and empathy over silence.
“Oyo children deserve better. They deserve it now,” the statement concluded.
