Osun APC UK Backs Female Deputy Governorship Candidate

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State and South West Chapter in the United Kingdom, have urged party leaders to adopt gender balance in selecting a deputy governorship candidate.

The group said the choice of a running mate for the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, presents an opportunity to strengthen inclusiveness and electoral appeal.

In a statement signed by Chairman, Justice Adetona, and Women Leader, Pastor Margaret Falodi Apoeso, the group noted that Osun’s last two deputy governors were male.

They called for a competent female candidate, preferably a Christian from the Ife axis, to achieve gender, religious and zoning balance.

The group stressed that women constitute the majority of voters and grassroots mobilisers and deserve stronger representation at the highest level of governance.

It also disclosed that a formal letter had been sent to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, and the party’s governorship candidate, outlining the appeal.

According to the group, adopting the proposal would broaden the party’s support base and improve its electoral prospects.

The APC UK chapter reaffirmed its loyalty to the party and commitment to promoting unity, victory and good governance in Osun State.
