...inspect the rehabilitation corridor in readiness for commencement.

Lagos State Government has released traffic management plan for the scheduled rehabilitation works on Sections 2 and 3 of the Lekki–Epe Expressway which will commence on Sunday, 25th January, 2026.

In an inspection of the rehabilitation corridor conducted today by the State Commissioner for Transportation,  Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi,  Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation,  Hon. Sola Giwa and Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure,  Engr. Olufemi Daramola, the project is set to commence as planned.

Speaking during the inspection, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure,  Engr. Olufemi Daramola explained that the rehabilitation of both carriage-ways of the Lekki–Epe Expressway which was initially scheduled to commence in December, 2025 was postponed due to high end-year activities.

He further stated that in line with full commencement of the project on Sunday, there was a need for an on-site re-assessment of the rehabilitation plan in alignment with traffic management.

Engr. Daramola also highlighted the rehabilitation work schedule which will be executed in eight phases with an estimated two months each on Lagos bound and Epe bound.

Explaining the traffic management plan for the project, the Commissioner for Transportation,  Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi stated that the rehabilitation works will be carried out intersection by intersection, rather than across the entire corridor at once and also done both day and night to cover more ground within the project timeline.

Appreciating the on-site visitation which gave insight into areas that needed amendment in the plan, Mr. Osiyemi explained  that enough Traffic Management Personnel will be deployed to the corridor to control the sectional closures and contraflow operations with preference for peak periods.

He added that signage, illumination, and continuous traffic monitoring will be deployed especially on the Coastal Road which is the main alternative route

The Transportation Commissioner urged motorists to pay attention to the traffic managers directives to enhance movement throughout the construction period.

Reiterating the need for motorists to plan their movements in connectivity with the Coastal Road,  the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, assured that the State Government is committed to protecting road users at all time.

He assured that adequate Security, Traffic Management Personnel, and emergency respondents will be availableto manage unforeseen circumstances during the rehabilitation period.

In line with the traffic advisory of the project, the rehabilitation intersection one is expected to begin from Chevron to Igbo-Efon, Lagos-bound carriageway using a structured eight-intersection phased approach.

The eight intersections have equally been allocated with estimated days of completion; 1.79 KM Maruwa Bus Stop to Admiralty will take 7 Days, 1.50 KM Freedom Way to Maruwa Bus Stop will take 6 Days, 0.97 KM Chisco to Freedom Way will take 5 Days, 1.88 KM Jakande to Chisco will take 9 Days, 1.57 KM Igbo-Efonto Jakande will take 8 Days, 1.06 KM Chevron to Igbo-Efon will take 6 Days,  0.97 KM 2nd Toll Gate to Chevron will take 5 Days and finally, 4.37 KM AjahBridge to 2nd Toll Gate will take 18 Days.

To facilitate construction while maintaining vehicular movement, the Lagos-bound carriageway will be closed in segments. Traffic will be diverted to the Epe-bound carriageway using a dynamic lane sharing system of Morning peak and Evening Peak

For the Morning Peak (4:00 Am – 12:00 Pm), Lagos-bound, 2 Lanes will be available for motorists while Epe-bound will have a Lane available, while Evening Peak (1:00 Pm – 3:00 Am) Epe-bound will have 2 Lanes available to motorists and Lagos-bound, a Lane available.

In line with the traffic management plan, motorists heading towards Lagos will connect the Coastal Road from Ogombo via Abraham Adesanya, which allows complete avoidance of the Lekki–Epe Expressway

Alternatively, motorists will be able to link the Coastal Road from Eleganza via Orchid through Lafiaji and Naale Street.

The Lagos State Government assures residents, commuters, and road users that the rehabilitation works which will improve road durability, safety, and commuter experience  have been carefully planned and will be well managed to minimize traffic delays.

The State Government appeals for the patience, cooperation, and understanding of motorists as the rehabilitation works are in the collective interest of residents, businesses, and the long-term development of the Lekki-Epe axis.
