Ounje Eko Food Discount Market Continues Ahead Sallah Celebrations
The Ounje Eko food discount market of 25% price discount for foodstuffs like rice, beans, garri, crates of eggs, pepper, tomato, onions and loaves of bread for Lagosians by the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, continued today Sunday 7th April 2024 across the 3 senatorial zones of the state.
Our correspondents who visited several centres reported that there was a large turnout of buyers who trooped out to the centres to purchase food items at subsidized rates ahead of the forthcoming Eidel Fitri Sallah celebrations by Muslims in Nigeria like their counterparts in other parts of the world.
Buyers who spoke to our correspondents showered encomium on the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration for bringing relief to Lagosians at this critical economic time, just as they called for extension of the lifespan of the Ounje Eko foods discount market.
Some of the buyers at the markets also admonished the federal and states governments to put in place machinery to bring down the cost of foodstuffs in the markets generally like what obtains in the Sunday Ounje Eko food discount market because of the economic plight of the masses.
Our correspondents witnessed the orderliness that is gradually becoming a culture in the markets, though the men and officers of the Nigeria police force, NSCDC and Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corp (LNSC) were on ground to provide security, just as LASTMA operatives were also on ground to ensure the free flow of traffic.
Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of agriculture led by the permanent secretary and his team were seen going round the various markets centres to monitor the process, while the local CDA's, CDC's and the local chapters of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), etc were also seen monitoring the process in their localities.
