President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, today said the Federal Capital Territory has turned a new corner in infrastructure delivery with the opening of the Transit Way N2 Corridor, now linking the Central Business District directly to the Wuse District through two standard-engineered bridges.

 

Speaking during the event marking the 50th Anniversary of the FCT and the third year of the Renewed Hope Administration, the President described the new road as “an economic artery”, that will cut travel time, ease congestion, and unlock commercial activity for millions of commuters and businesses.

 

President Tinubu recalled the charge given to the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, CON, upon his appointment.

 

“When I gave the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, CON, Mr. Project, the mandate to oversee the Federal Capital Territory, my directive was single, clear, and uncompromising: deliver tangible results to the people, eliminate delays, and return Abuja to its master plan,” the President stated.

 

He added: “I also stressed that the 'Renewed Hope Agenda' must not just be a slogan written on billboards, but a living reality that our people can see, touch, and drive upon. He has not failed me. He has continued to surpass my expectations.”

  

The President noted that movement between Wuse and the Central Area was once defined by bottlenecks and lost productivity.  

 

“For years, traveling between Wuse and the Central Area meant navigating bottlenecks, losing productive man-hours, and enduring frustrating traffic gridlock. Today that has changed,” he said.

President Tinubu declared that the era of abandoned projects in Abuja is over, citing a new contract regime of funding, monitoring, and delivery.

 

“Abuja is no longer a city of abandoned projects. The era of contractors taking mobilization money and disappearing into thin air is permanently over in the FCT. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, if we sign a contract, we fund it, we monitor it, and we commission it”, he declared.

 

He commended the FCT Administration for vision and discipline in execution, and thanked contractors for “working around the clock to meet this deadline and building to the highest possible standards.”

 

Linking the project to the broader national agenda, the President said the N2 Transit Way reflects the administration’s commitment to infrastructure-led growth.

 

“Indeed, this project symbolizes progress and a reflection of my administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda — an agenda committed to building infrastructure that serves the people, unlocks economic potential, and supports sustainable development,” President Tinubu said. 

 

“Projects like this are a testament to what we can achieve when planning, execution, and leadership align with purpose, and we are determined to replicate this success in every part of the country, with roads, bridges, railways, and more, ensuring that no region is left behind.”

 

The President urged residents to protect the new infrastructure, obey traffic rules, and treat public assets with respect to ensure their lasting use.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, revealed the strategic financial blueprint that made the rapid development possible and explicitly credited President Tinubu’s business-minded approach to governance, particularly his decisive move to exit the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The Minister pointed out that under the previous TSA framework, FCT funds were strictly domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), severely limiting financial agility.

He said, "Having gone out from the TSA, we can now approach commercial banks for loans and use our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as collateral.

“The infrastructure revolution everyone is talking about was initiated by Mr. President. He saw our impediment and removed it so that we could succeed."

“Mr. President knew that we could not perform if we still operate under the TSA. That’s why when he came on board, he said I don’t want to hear excuses, I don’t want to hear complaints. I am removing you from the TSA.

“The TSA means that we will be having an account only with the Central Banks and we can’t borrow money from the commercial banks. Now, having gone out of the TSA, we can approach commercial banks and use our IGR as collateral”, Barr. Wike said.

The FCT Minister also expressed immense satisfaction with the project's completion, confessing that he initially harbored deep skepticism about the contractor's ability to deliver the project on time.

He recalled confronting the construction firm during an inspection tour earlier in the year due to slow progress. "When I came here in May, I expressed serious doubt that the project would be completed and the contractor saw a different side of me. I told them they wouldn’t get any contract in the FCT again because they had failed."

He added that, following a commitment letter from the contractor and a subsequent inspection on May 29 that revealed massive progress, he directed the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to include the road among the flagship projects for commissioning. He commended the firm for its competence and assured them of continued partnership.

Reacting to a humorous remark by the contractor that the rapid development had left Google Maps confused because the new alignment did not yet exist in its database, Barr. Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration will ensure Google Maps is promptly updated to reflect all newly constructed roads across the capital city to prevent navigation difficulties.

In her goodwill message, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a triumph of vision and a fulfillment of promises made to the residents of Abuja.

"Today, we celebrate not merely the completion of a new road, but the fulfillment of promise, the triumph of vision, and another shining milestone in the remarkable transformation of our nation's capital," Dr. Mahmoud said. She extended deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, noting that the Renewed Hope agenda is steadily transforming aspirations into enduring realities.  

Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, Executive Secretary, FCDA, while presenting the technical overview said that the contract for Transit Way N2 was awarded to Levant Construction Limited in October, 2025 for the construction of the Transit Way N2, to connect the Central Business District to Wuse District, including 2 bridges.

 

He described the transit way as a continuous transit corridor running through districts which go through both the northern and southern corridors. He stated it was a mixed traffic way with provision for road and rail transportation, at the same time connecting the City Centre with other districts and even the satellite towns. Engr Dauda revealed that Transit Way N2 was the first major realization of the construction of transit ways in the FCT, with dual carriageways and a media to accommodate rail lines in the future, and includes solar streetlights, pedestrian walkway and drainage.  

 

Managing Director, Levant Construction Limited, Contractors of the project, Mr Elie Tannous, appreciated the FCT Minister and his team for his unwavering support and firm supervision which enabled his company to deliver the project within nine months. "This project seemed like a Mission Impossible, but today, we stand to commission it, in response to the Renewed Hope Agenda of this Administration."   Engr. Tannous highlighted that the project was executed with the future of Abuja in mind, stating that "provision has been made for a metro lane, and future expansions" along the corridor.
