The Oyenike Oyekan foundation cancer awareness outreach exercise continued in Ibadan on Friday 6th February 2026 with a prostate cancer health talk to the general assembly of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) at the organization headquarters in Yemetu area of Ibadan, in Oyo State.

The President General of CCII Alhaji Chief Barrister Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole led executives, welcomed the Oyenike Oyekan foundation team to the general assembly of the umbrella body of all clubs and associations of Ibadan Indigenes in Oyo State and appreciated the foundation for coming around to educate and sensitize the people on cancer.

In his presentation to the gathering which was conducted in the Yoruba language, the managing consultant of Oyenike Oyekan foundation Nelson Ekujumi dwelt on what is cancer, prostrate cancer, who is at risk, risk factors, warning signs and what is to be done if any of the symptoms associated with prostate cancer is observed in the body.

He made it known that prostrate cancer as a disease suffered by man is not as a result of ancestral curse(s), or witches and wizards, but is a disease to which any man above age 40-50 and above is vulnerable.

He advocated accessing regular screening to enable early detection which is key to treatment. According to Nelson Ekujumi, "The symptoms of prostrate cancer include but is not limited to difficulty or pain in urinating, irregular urination, frequent urination at night, weak or interrupted urine flow, blood in the urine, persistent pain in the lower back, hips or pelvis and erectile dysfunction". Going further, he asserted that "The occurrence of any of the symptoms mentioned does not directly connotes prostrate cancer, which makes screening critical to diagnose the actual state of health"

Nelson Ekujumi, admonished the audience which comprised men and women to take the message of the cancer awareness outreach beyond the venue to their homes, offices, work places and communities in order to increase awareness and debunk old held myths and superstitious beliefs as being responsible for prostate cancer, "because the greatest threat to the fight against prostate cancer, is ignorance".

According to Nelson Ekujumi, "early detection is key in the fight against cancer which is not a death sentence but can be treated and cured".

The President General of CCII Alhaji Chief Barrister Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole applauded the Oyenike Oyekan foundation for it's efforts in creating awareness on cancer to save lives.

Present at the event were representatives of the various members organizations of CCII led by the President General Alhaji Chief Barrister Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole, 1st Vice President Alh. (Dr.) Rahman Soladoye Oyebamji, 2nd assistant Secretary General Mr. Yusuf Suleman Iyanda and other executive members.
