LASG IDENTIFIES WITH LASRAB ON PRESERVING LAGOS HISTORY

The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, has reaffirmed his strong support for the mission of the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) in preserving the history and heritage of Lagos State.

He stated this during a visit by a team from the Bureau led by its Director-General of LASRAB, Mr. Amodu Razak, to the State Ministry of Information and Strategy on Thursday, 19th February 2026.

Welcoming the management team of LASRAB, the Commissioner described the Agency’s vision as clear, strategic, and vital to the development of the State. “If you forget the past, you cannot see into the future,” he stated, emphasising the importance of institutional memory. He charged LASRAB to fast-track its digitisation drive to safeguard government records and prevent the loss of critical historical and administrative information.

He further encouraged the Bureau to remain focused and to strengthen collaborations with relevant institutions - both public and private, as well as individuals, to ensure the comprehensive preservation of Lagos State’s documents and historical materials.

Earlier in his remarks, the Director-General of LASRAB, Mr. Amodu Razak, outlined the purpose of the visit and briefed the Commissioner on the Bureau’s programmes, initiatives, and achievements since his assumption of office.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bajulaiye Olanrewaju, commended the Director-General’s dedication and commitment to sustaining and improving the standards of the agency, describing LASRAB as a vital arm of the Ministry. He stressed the significance of records in shaping identity, saying “If you have lost your language, your culture, you have lost your identity.”

The visit reinforced the shared commitment of the Ministry and LASRAB to preserving the past and present records that define Lagos State’s legacy for future generations.
