Ibadan South West Local Government Chairman Hon. Akande Leads Thugs To Vandalize and Cart Away NRC Properties
The chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government Council Honourable Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, today Monday 2nd of February 2026, led a retinue of thugs, men dressed in Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Army uniforms and Amotekun operatives to invade, vandalize and cart away Nigerian Railway Corporation rails, sleepers, signal poles, count boards, etc at mile one cent/odo ona area of Ibadan Oyo State, in his desperate bid to illegally hand over the land around the railway corridor to private developers for commercial purposes.
Our correspondent who was at the scene of the incident reported that the chairman led the operation and was openly boasting that he has the authority of Governor Seyi Makinde to illegally remove any structure lying within the NRC land, earmarked for private development by his local government council.
Even when he was intimated with the fact that railways tracks are visible signal that the land and the corridor consisting of the rails tracks, sleepers, signal poles, etc, belonged to the NRC, Hon Akande refused to bulge as he insisted that the Ibadan West local government council was taking over the land by virtue of the fact that it is situated within the jurisdiction of the local government council.
All efforts of the officers and men of the Nigerian Railway police command to arrest the situation and prevent the vandalization and forceful removal of rails, sleepers, signal poles, count boards, etc, was met with a stiff resistance by hon Akande and his thugs.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) MD Dr. Kayode Opeifa could not be reached for comment as at the time of going to the press, but the public relations officer of NRC when contacted in phone, promised that the management of the NRC have been intimated with the ugly development and will respond appropriately.
