Anambra Govt. partners APWEN to enhance women engineers’ capacity

The Anambra State Material Testing Laboratory (ASMTL) Awka, says it is collaborating with the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Awka chapter, to enhance the capacity of women engineers.

Mr Ebosie Ezeoke, Director, ASMTL, made this known on Wednesday in Awka, during a one day industrial visit by APWEN to ASMTL facility.

“We are delighted to partner with APWEN, Awka chapter, to empower the next generation of female engineers by providing hands-on experience,” he said.

Ezeoke provided an overview of the laboratory’s facilities and capabilities to the group.

Earlier, Dr Ifeyinwa Dimson, Chairman, APWEN, Awka chapter said that the visit was to enhance the engineering skills and knowledge of members.

“This visit is to enhance the engineering skills of APWEN members and provide them with hands-on experience in material testing procedures and standards,” she said.

Dimson also said that the visit was in line with APWEN’s objective of nurturing a technologically developed nation with women engineers as key players.

“Material testing is a critical aspect of engineering. It is essential to carryout necessary analysis of soil, soil water and aggregates, considering the rate of building collapse in the community,” she said.

During the event, participants, mainly undergraduate female students of Faculty of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe, (UNIZIK), Awka, had the opportunity to gain practical experience in material testing procedures and standards.

They also networked as some professionals and engineers shared knowledge and best practices.

Miss Chidinma Onyekwelu, student, Industrial Production Engineering Department, UNIZIK, said she gained valuable insights into various tests.

“This event has enhanced my engineering skills and knowledge,” she said.
