Super Eagles Trash Host Cote D'Ivoire in Group Clash 




The Super Eagles of Nigeria in continuation of matches in the ongoing 2023 African Nations Cup in Cote D'Ivoire, defeated host nation Cote D'Ivoire in the second round of matches in the group in Abidjan yesterday.

The Super Eagles triumphed over the Elephants of Cote D'Ivoire by a lone goal courtesy of a converted spot kick by the super Eagles captain Troost Ekong in the second half, after the reigning African footballer of the year Victor Osimhen was fouled in the eighteen yard box of the Ivorians.

The referee pointed to the penalty spot after consulting with the VAR and the screen for validation. The penalty kick was converted and the Super Eagles held on to the goal advantage till the centre referee called off the match at the end of regulation time with an extension of 9 extra minutes.

In an earlier match in the group, Equatorial Guinea defeated Guinea Bissau by 4 goals to 2, to go tops of the group, followed by the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
