*THE PROGRESSIVES GROUP CAUTIONS AGAINST ACTIONS THAT MAY TRUNCATE THE ELECTORAL PROCESS, URGES ADHERENCE TO INEC TIMELINES*

The Progressives Group, TPG, a coalition of patriotic Nigerians committed to democracy, good governance and national stability, has noted with concern recent statements and declarations regarding the ongoing electoral process.

We acknowledge the recent *"Doctrine of a Necessary Democratic Opposition"* released by the G100, a coalition of prominent leaders and academics. While opposition and dissent are critical pillars of democracy, TPG wishes to remind all stakeholders that *The Electoral Process Is Sacred and Must Not Be Truncated, Derailed, or Intimidated.*

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has duly commenced preparations and activities leading to the 2027 General Elections in line with the Constitution and the Electoral Act.

*TPG therefore makes the following demands:*

1.  *LET THE PROCESS PROCEED*: INEC should be allowed to carry out its constitutional mandate without interference. Any attempt to truncate, delay or delegitimize the process will undermine our democracy.

2.  *FREE AND FAIR CONTEST*: All eligible Nigerians who wish to contest for any office must be allowed to do so freely, without intimidation, harassment, or undue pressure.

3.  *ISSUE-BASED POLITICS*: We urge political actors, civil society, and opinion leaders to engage in issue-based debates rather than actions that create tension and uncertainty around the electoral calendar.

Democracy thrives when the rules are respected by all — the government, opposition, civil society, and the people.  

TPG calls on the G100, all political parties, and other stakeholders to channel their energies toward strengthening institutions, not weakening them.
