The Oyenike Oyekan foundation, which is a non governmental organization with focus on cancer awareness, care, screening and social development, today in Ibadan, continued it's breast cancer awareness outreach with a sensitization session today 29th July 2026 at the Ajibade/Obasa PHC in Ibadan North local government council area of Oyo State.
In his welcome address, the managing consultant of Oyenike Oyekan foundation Nelson Ekujumi welcome the audience to the sensitization workshop which in tandem with the vision and mission of the foundation in order to engage and illuminate citizens ignorance about cancer as being caused by curses, witchcrafts and other myths. According to him, "cancer is a consequence of genetics and environmental factors, which can only be contained through early detection which is key in the battle against it".
He admonished the audience to recognize that "The fight against cancer is a collective battle that must involve every being in order to save humanity"
At the sensitization programme, which was well attended by health personnel from the host PHC, community leaders, and residents comprising majorly of pregnant women and nursing mothers, Precious Fasiku the programme coordinator of Oyenike Oyekan foundation spoke extensively on what is breast cancer, symptoms to look out for, risk factors, myths and facts, as well as how to live and maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid breast cancer.
She also made it known that "Breast cancer is not a death sentence, please let's all join the crusade to speak up and spread the message".
One of the participants at the sensitization programme Mrs Kasali Abosede lauded the organizers for the educational session which according to her, "This programme has widened our knowledge on issues surrounding breast cancer beyond what we already know and we hope other organizations will follow suit so that we can all come together in the fight against cancer".
