Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Laud Rescue of Oriire Abductees

... Commends President Tinubu & Security Agencies For the Fulfillment of Promised Rescue

.... Condemns Governor Makinde Call for UN Probe, describes it as an assault on the sovereignty of Nigeria

.... Calls for Governor Seyi Makinde to be placed on Security Watchlist

A coalition of Civil Society and public Interests Organizations, the Democracy and Good Governance Watch Initiative (DGGWI) has commended the successful rescue of the kidnapped Oriire students and teachers by the Nigerian Security Agencies after weeks of sustained intelligence led operational activities which manifested in the safe return of the abductees.

In a press statement e-signed by the Conveners Nelson Ekujumi, Popoola Ajayi, Gbenga Soloki and Shola Justice, the group stated, "We are elated and give glory to God Almighty for giving our gallant security agencies victory over the forces of darkness by the successful rescue of the Oriire abductees".

The group expressed its heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for providing the needed leadership and fulfilling his promise to Nigerians that the abducted victims will be rescued. According to the group, "President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Service Chiefs, our gallant troops, Amotekun corps, local vigilantes and all those who played one role or the other to bring to an end this ugly saga of trauma, pain, torture and grief inflicted on Nigerians and humanity by evil forces, are highly appreciated and commended".

The group used the opportunity of the release to thank Nigerians who kept faith and prayed tirelessly for the successful operation by the security agencies and admonished them to continue believing in Nigeria because "A people United in Common Purpose of Patriotic Commitment to motherland, can never be defeated by the agents of darkness no matter how long it takes".

The group then charged Nigerians to continue to keep faith in democracy and the present administration by praying and working for her good and refuse to be hoodwinked by fifth columnists and agents of destabilization masquerading as advocates of good governance and public interests, but who have been exposed for what they stand for by the conspiracy theories they are conjuring in sadness over the successful rescue of the abducted Oriire victims.

In the same vein, the group condemned in the strongest terms, the irresponsible, reckless, provocative, mischievous and assault on national sovereignty and integrity call by Governor Seyi Makinde for a UN probe of the circumstances of the abduction and successful release of the victims.

According to the group, by this irresponsible and condemnable call, "Governor Seyi has once again desecrated the office of the first citizen of Oyo State like has become his stock in trade, assaulted national sovereignty and exhibited wickedness by dancing shamelessly naked and without conscience on the graves of some of the victims who lost their lives in captivity and the security operatives and local vigilantes who paid the supreme price during the rescue operations".

"Governor Seyi Makinde has demonstrated that he's a misfit for leadership by his wicked, uncaring, unconcerned and conscienceless comments of calling for a UN probe of the Oriire abduction just because the abductees have been rescued from captivity and has sent a clear message to all, that his personal political ambition is far more important than the sufferings, pains, trauma and grief of the abductees while in captivity, their families, Nigerians, humanity and the sacrifices made by our gallant and patriotic security agencies and others for weeks before the successful rescue".

"We are at a loss to explain why Governor Seyi Makinde as the Chief Security Officer of Oyo State, who presides over the State Security Council, receives monthly allocation for Security Vote and who is constitutionally empowered to institute such a probe of the security breach in his State if he is indeed sincere, did not seem it fit to do so, or call for a UN probe until now that the abductees have been successfully rescued?

The coalition further stated, "By this reckless, irresponsible, provocative and condemnable statement of Governor Seyi Makinde, we have strong reasons to believe that there is more to this Oriire abduction that Governor Seyi Makinde is aware of, and is trying to distract from his irresponsibility and has become apprehensive because of the successful rescue of the victims and the apprehension of some of the kidnappers now in the custody of the security agencies".

"We are now using this medium to call on the security agencies to beam their searchlight on Governor Seyi Makinde and his administration in the investigation of the Oriire abduction".

The group also called on the security agencies to place Governor Seyi Makinde under security watch as we countdown to the 2027 general elections because of likely further security breaches in Oyo State or any other part of Nigeria, by his reckless, inciting and suspicious comments and conduct over the Oriire abduction which is a pointer to the fact that he's a threat to our democracy and national security.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Thank you.

Yours Sincerely,

E-signed,

Nelson Ekujumi

Popoola Ajayi

Gbenga Soloki
