*A DETAILED POSITION ON THE BIAS MIND TOWARDS PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR, MOSTLY FROM HIS PEOPLE (YORUBAS)*
*INTRODUCTION*
History teaches us that the greatest test of leadership often comes not from enemies outside, but from expectations within.
Today, *His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR*, the first Yoruba man to emerge as President through democratic process after 24 years, is facing a unique challenge: a "bias mind" from segments of his own Yoruba base.
As *Transformation Ambassadors of Good Governance in Nigeria*, our mandate is to promote unity, objective governance, and national development. This paper seeks to diagnose the bias, explain its roots, state its dangers, and propose a Yoruba path forward rooted in _Omoluabi_ values.
*1. WHAT DO WE MEAN BY "BIAS MIND"?*
By "bias mind" we mean a mindset that judges President Tinubu primarily through an ethnic, emotional, and immediate-gratification lens, rather than through a national, institutional, and long-term governance lens.
It shows up as:
1. *Entitlement Expectation*: "He is our son, so Yorubaland must get everything first and now."
2. *Amplified Criticism*: The same hardship policy is criticized more harshly when it comes from "our own" than from others.
3. *Impatient Assessment*: Judging a 4-8 year administration based on the first 24 months of tough economic reforms.
*2. ROOT CAUSES OF THIS BIAS AMONG SOME YORUBAS*
1. *High Hope, High Hurt*: Because the Yoruba invested heavily in the Jagaban movement from NADECO days to APC, the expectation of quick turnaround is very high. When reforms bite, the disappointment is also deep.
2. *Information Gap*: Many do not fully understand the difference between federalism, fiscal policy, and regional intervention. So national policies are interpreted as "anti-South West."
3. *Political Opportunism*: Some political actors within and outside Yorubaland exploit the President’s Yoruba identity to mobilize dissent, knowing it will gain traction at home.
4. *Pain of Reforms*: Subsidy removal, FX harmonization, and inflation have hit the market women in Mile 12, artisans in Aba, and civil servants in Ikeja equally. But because "he is our son," the pain feels more personal.
*3. WHY THIS BIAS IS SELF-DEFEATING*
1. *It Reduces National Leverage*: No President can govern effectively when his base is at war with him. A divided South West gives less negotiating power for federal projects, appointments, and policy considerations.
2. *It Distorts History*: President Tinubu’s legacy includes Lagos transformation, party building, and democracy advocacy. To reduce that to present hardship alone is to be historically unfair.
3. *It Feeds Division*: Opponents use the narrative "Even Yorubas are rejecting Tinubu" to weaken national cohesion and paint the administration as isolated.
4. *It Hurts the Next Generation*: Reforms like Student Loan, CNG buses, and infrastructure are 10-year foundations. Impatience now can abort benefits our children would enjoy.
*4. THE OTHER SIDE: WHAT GOVERNMENT MUST ALSO DO*
As critical stakeholders, we must also speak truth to power. Bias is often fueled by silence and distance.
The Federal Government must:
1. *Communicate Better*: Break down reforms in Yoruba, Pidgin, and simple terms. Townhalls in the South West are important.
2. *Accelerate Visible Projects*: Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, completion of rail lines, agro-processing hubs in Ogun/Oyo/Ondo must be seen.
3. *Deepen Inclusion*: Ensure Yoruba technocrats, youth, and women are meaningfully carried along in appointments and programs.
4. *Tackle Cost of Living*: Food security and transport palliatives must be felt at the grassroots.
*5. OUR CALL: THE OMOLUABI WAY FORWARD*
To my Yoruba people, I say this as a brother:
1. *Criticize with Solutions, Not Insults*: We can disagree without abusing. That is Omoluabi.
2. *Be Patient with Process, but Vigilant with Delivery*: Hold government accountable, but give reforms time to mature.
3. *Protect Our Strategic Position*: The South West is at the center of power. Let us not throw away 8 years of access because of 2 years of pain.
4. *Pray and Participate*: PVC, policy advocacy, and community engagement are more powerful than online outrage.
As Yorubas, we are known for wisdom, foresight, and courage. _A o ni je ki a je tiwa, a o si je ki a je ti awon omo wa._
_We will not eat up what belongs to us, neither will we eat up what belongs to our children._
*CONCLUSION*
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR belongs to Nigeria. But to us Yorubas, he is also our reflection on the national stage.
If we pull him down with bias, we pull down our collective influence. If we engage him with truth and support him with patriotism, we position Yorubaland and Nigeria for a greater future.
Let us choose nation-building over ethnic frustration. Let us choose governance over gossip. Let us choose legacy over anger.
*God bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR*
*God bless the Yoruba Nation*
*God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria*
