FATAL HEAD-ON COLLISION ON THIRD MAINLAND BRIDGE CLAIMS LIFE OF MOTHER WHILE HER 30-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER SURVIVED THE INCIDENT.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) solemnly announces a tragic road traffic incident that occurred earlier today along the Third Mainland Bridge, precisely at the Ilaje inward Iyana Oworo axis.

The harrowing incident involved a catastrophic head-on collision between two Toyota Sienna vehicles (LSR 809 GV and LSR 695 HM). The severity of the impact underscores the grave consequences of reckless driving behaviours, particularly excessive speeding.

Upon receiving the distress alert, LASTMA operatives who were on routine surveillance along the bridge responded with commendable promptitude, swiftly instituting essential traffic control measures to avert further complications. Safety cones were strategically deployed to cordon off the accident scene and ensure the protection of other road users.

Personnel from the Oworonsoki Police Division equally responded expeditiously to the emergency call and were fully engaged at the scene to carry out comprehensive documentation and initiate necessary statutory procedures.

Regrettably, the incident resulted in the loss of one female adult, a mother, while her 30-year-old daughter who was in the same vehicle miraculously survived the collision.

The remains of the deceased have been evacuated by security operatives, while LASTMA officials, in synergy with other relevant agencies, maintained a vigilant presence to ensure efficient traffic management and prevent any secondary incidents.

In the aftermath of the crash, one of the drivers absconded from the scene. However, the second driver was promptly apprehended by LASTMA personnel and subsequently handed over to the police to facilitate thorough investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has once again issued a stern admonition to all motorists to eschew reckless driving, particularly over speeding, which remains a predominant cause of fatal road accidents.

He further urged drivers to exercise heightened caution, adhere strictly to prescribed speed limits and uphold the highest standards of road discipline at all times.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority remains unwavering in its commitment to the preservation of lives and the maintenance of orderly traffic flow across the State.
