FAM lauds APC successful primaries
The Father Abraham Movement, FAM, a civic awareness and policy-support platform, has described the recently held All Progressives Congress, APC party primaries held across the country as a huge success and a clear sign of what to come in the 2027 general elections.
The body's national coordinator, Olorogun Ovoke Idogun in a statement on Sunday described the nationwide pre election process as one of the most “successful party primary elections in recent times across the world".
The APC party primaries into states and federal elective positions ended on Saturday, May 24, with that of the presidential primary that saw the incumbent president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu winning the ticket of the party to run for re election next year.
President Tinubu was on Sunday handed the All Progressives Congress (APC) certificate and flag as its Presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
The Presidential Primary Elections Committee presented the certificate and flag at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja after nationwide collation of the primary election results. The APC governors, members of the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, and the National Assembly, along with party stalwarts, were in attendance the elaborate event.
Olorogun Idogun who last week admonished politicians to shun violence and follow party rules and regulations to ensure a peaceful and seamless process said the FAM family were satisfied with the outcome of the exercise. “ Recall that last week, we at FAM called on all political parties especially the APC, politicians, aspirants, leaders and party faithful to maintain the peace and follow laid down rules and regulations of their various parties to ensure that the process comes out fair and credible in the eyes of Nigerians and the international community. Today, we can boldly say that the APC primaries held across the country was a huge success.”
According to reports by the FAM's monitoring team that went across the country, the exercise was successful. “I want to say that at FAM, we took the primary elections seriously because we viewed it as a test run to what will happen in the general elections next year, and we can say confidently that the ruling party is on solid ground to sweep all the available seats. The turnout was massive, the process, free, fair and transparent. But this is not to say that there were some people who were not dissatisfied with the outcome because they or their preferred candidates lost out, but then, that is expected in any contest. Winners will always celebrate while the people who lost will sulk. However, the APC is one big family and we will find a way to bring everybody together again for the greater good of the party and Nigerians in general, as the president of the country and head of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is firmly in control of things and has directed that the process of reconciliation begins immediately The primary elections was the first step aimed at getting the main elections right, and the INEC has also assured all Nigerians that the 2027 elections would be free, fair and transparent.”
On the chances of Asiwaju Tinubu getting re elected, Idogun said he was not losing any sleep about that. “So as not to be seen as sounding over confident, but I must say that the 2027 election has been won and lost already and we of course have our great leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu staying on as president till 2031. FAM on it's part, is not resting on its oars as we have since December last year began our grassroots campaign and mobilisation for the president and the All Progressives Congress. We have been selling the achievements of the president and the party since 2023 when president Tinubu took over, to the people at the grassroots. At FAM, our style is to focus on promoting public understanding of governance, reforms, and leadership direction in Nigeria, with calm and reasoned support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Our core driving force is credible, and informed support for the president and the ruling party. We believe patience, stability, and understanding of governance processes are more effective than emotional or confrontational messaging and that is why our vision is to support a Nigeria where citizens are better informed and more confident in governance and long-term national development. Our mission statement is to promote awareness and understanding of governance and policy reforms through calm communication, public sensitization, and responsible engagement.”
