Estate Rent and Commission Agents Association of Nigeria holds National Conference in Lagos

Practitioners and stakeholders in the estate rent and commission agents of Nigeria, gathered today Wednesday 25th March 2026 in Lagos for it's national conference with the theme: Repositioning Agency Practice In A Changing Real Estate Market: Challenges, Ethics, Technology, Tax and Professional Growth, to deliberate on the challenges facing the profession with a view to charting the way forward for the future.


The event which attracted the creme de la creme of the estate rent and commission agents across the country and other stakeholders, had in attendance the national President and a member of BOT of ERCAAN hon. Prince Johnson Ajikan (JP), other BOT members notably Asiwaju I. S. Eniola Agbaje JP BOT Chairman/national grand patron and founder of the association, hon. Bola Ajayi Aji-dunni BOT secretary, hon. Austine Amadi BOT publicity secretary, high Chief hon. Jones Olatoye Akingbogun BOT treasurer, and other BOT members, ERCAAN national executives which included among others hon. Pastor Iyke Oguama national vice president, hon. Bisi Ogunneye national coordinator (Lagos), hon. Mrs. Caroline Aina national matron, hon. Salawu Lukman national assistant secretary, delegates from states membership of the association comprising Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, etc.


In his welcome address, the national President of ERCAAN, hon. Prince Johnson Ajikan (JP) lamented a number of challenges confronting the association, which include but is not limited to unethical practices, infiltration by unregistered practitioners, lack of proper regulation and the growing concerns about transparency and professionalism. According to him, "The real estate sector remains one of the most vital pillars of the Nigerian economy". He further stated that, "The activities of quacks, unethical practices and dishonesty were critical impediments, undermining the image of the  association in the eyes of the public"


Hon. Ajikan however noted that despite all these challenges, ERCAAN has consistently stood out for professionalism, integrity, accountability and unity among practitioners. "Our mission remains clear: to organize, regulate, and promote ethical standards among estate rent and commission agents across Nigeria".


He charged participants at the conference to make use of the gathering for meaningful dialogue, collaboration and policy direction.


On his part the guest lecturer ESV Ayodele Olamoju who spoke on the topic, "Repositioning Agency Practice in a Changing Real Estate Market: Ethics, Technology, Tax and Professional Growth - With Reference to the Nigerian Real Estate Market, charged the practitioners to be professional and transparent in the course of their business.


According to ESV Ayodele Olamoju, "the greatest currency in the real estate business is trust". He admonished practitioners to be honest and professional in their business transactions in the industry in order to take it to greater heights.


The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on housing Hon. Barakat Odunnuga Bakare who was ably represented by the Director of Personnel in the Ministry of Housing Mr Saheed Omotosho, congratulated the association on it's national conference, while pledging that the doors of the ministry is open at all times to the association for information, education, inquiries and collaboration.


Mr. Omotosho informed the gathering that the ministry has opened offices in the 5 divisions of the state, for accessibility and collaboration with the association on matters related to rents and sundry matters as it affects housing issues in Lagos State.


The association also embarked on a fund raising drive for the construction of the ERCAAN secretariat for which the BOT, national and states executive members and others were called out to make their personal and group donations.


The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of awards to the honourable Special Adviser Barakat Odunnuga Bakare by the association, also to Mr Ayodele Olamoju, the founder of the association who is the BOT chairman and National Grand Patron Asiwaju I. S. Eniola Agbaje JP and other members of the association who were honoured for their contributions to the association and the industry. Among those on the honour list were high Chief Aare hon. Olabode Thomas Ojabogun (JP), and others.
