YDV APPLAUDS PRESIDENT TINUBU’S OPEN-DOOR POLICY ON SECURITY, URGES FOCUS ON KWARA AS BANDITS THREATEN YORUBA LAND

YDV APPLAUDS PRESIDENT TINUBU’S OPEN-DOOR POLICY ON SECURITY, URGES FOCUS ON KWARA AS BANDITS THREATEN YORUBA LAND.

A socio-political organization, the Yoruba for Democratic Values (YDV) has today issued a statement addressing critical issues of national security and economic governance, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while calling for urgent, scaled-up action to protect the Yoruba nation from escalating terrorist incursions.

1. Commendation for Inclusive Security Dialogue and Military Cooperation

YDV acknowledges the President’s willingness to allow stakeholders both within and outside the country to contribute ideas toward solving Nigeria’s security challenges. We cannot but specifically mention the international military cooperation in personnel and expertise as in the recently reported arrival of about 200 United States military troops to help in combating security breaches across Nigeria. We commend this open-door policy that harnesses collective wisdom. However, we note with concern that despite these consultations, the desired results remain elusive on the ground. We urge the administration to move swiftly from dialogue to decisive action.

2. Alarm Over Kwara State as Epicenter of Banditry

YDV is deeply concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Kwara State. It has become increasingly clear that bandits and terrorist elements are now focusing their attacks on Kwara, using it as a launching pad to infiltrate other parts of the South West, including Ekiti, Ondo, and Oyo States. We hereby call on President Tinubu, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to immediately redirect focus and military assets to Kwara State. If the Kwara corridor is not secured, the entire Yoruba homeland remains vulnerable to penetration and occupation by these criminal elements.

3. Congratulations on Economic Ratings

We extend our congratulations to the President on the recent positive ratings from the World Bank and other international financial institutions. These commendations regarding Nigeria’s rapidly improving economy are a testament to the bold reforms being undertaken by this administration. We urge the President to ensure that his cabinet members work in unison to translate these macroeconomic gains into tangible relief for the common man, ensuring that no Nigerian feels cheated or left behind in this recovery.

4. Demand for Massive Youth Recruitment

While we note the recent approval for the recruitment of 20,000 police officers, YDV asserts that this number is grossly inadequate to combat the current security challenges facing the nation. We would like to remind President Tinubu of his campaign promises and advise him to live up to that commitment by enlisting at least 500,000 able-bodied youths into the various security outfits across the country. Massively employing our youth in the security sector will not only bolster our defense but will also address unemployment and restiveness.

5. Call for Funding and Arming of Local Vigilantes and Amotekun

The Federal Government must move beyond rhetoric and provide substantial support to known local vigilantes and regional security outfits. Specifically, we demand that the South West security network, codenamed "Amotekun," be supported with the necessary funds to acquire modern firearms and sophisticated surveillance equipment, including drones for monitoring our forests. Furthermore, the federal government should provide the technical know-how needed for intelligence gathering to enable these local operatives to secure their respective domains effectively.

6. Integration of Traditional Warfare Methodology

Finally, YDV calls on the government to institutionalize traditional warfare methodology. Nigeria is rich in cultural and spiritual diversity, and history has shown that traditional intelligence and warfare tactics have their place in securing our communities. We urge the government to convene a conference of individuals who can prove their prowess in this regard. These traditional warriors should be allowed to demonstrate their capabilities with the sole aim of integrating their methodologies with modern warfare techniques to create a holistic approach to security.

The Yoruba nation stands ready to support the Federal Government in every positive step taken to secure our people.
