LASU MATRICULATES 14,893 FRESHERS AS VC REITERATES ZERO TOLERANCE FOR MISCONDUCT

The Lagos State University on Monday officially matriculated 14,893 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session, with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, urging the freshers to uphold discipline and pursue academic excellence.

Speaking at the well-attended ceremony held on the Ojo campus, the VC expressed gratitude to God and congratulated the students selected out of more than 70,000 applicants who sought admission into the institution this year. She described LASU as the University of First Choice, the best in West Africa according to UI Greenmetrics, and the most digitally innovative university in Nigeria for 2025.

Professor Olatunji-Bello assured the students that their welfare, security and learning environment remain top priorities of the university management. She noted that adequate security measures are in place and encouraged students to report any suspicious activity for prompt action.

The VC reminded the freshers that LASU is committed to raising generational leaders, adding that the institution places strong emphasis on character development, responsibility and global competitiveness.

She advised the new students to take their studies seriously and abide by the university’s regulations. She warned them against cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, corruption, hooliganism and all forms of deviant behaviour, stressing that the institution will not hesitate to sanction offenders.

Professor Olatunji-Bello further reiterated the university’s zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, highlighting the establishment of the Directorate of Response and Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. She urged students not to keep silent when harassed, saying “if you see something, say something.”

The VC expressed optimism that the students will complete their programmes in record time and return for their convocation in four to five years.

The event was attended by members of the university management, deans of faculties, directors of centres, academic and non-academic staff, as well as parents and well-wishers of the matriculating students.
