Civil Society Organization Commends The Conviction and Sentencing of International Terrorist Nnamdi Kanu

......Describes Judgement as Victory for Nigeria in the War Against Terrorism

A civil society organization, the Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) has commended the judiciary for its courageous and detailed conviction and sentencing of proscribed terrorist organization IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu on all 7 count charges, whom the court described as an international terrorist.

According to a press release signed by the organization executive director Nelson Ekujumi, he stated that, "We applaud and regard this conviction and sentencing of the international terrorist Nnamdi Kanu as a victory in the war against terrorism for Nigeria".

The group noted that like every concerned individuals and groups who are troubled by the recurring security challenges bedevilling the Nigerian society, "We have watched in awe and shock how people who are supposed to know better have fraudulently attempted to paint terrorist organization IPOB as a freedom fighting one even in the face of its incontrovertible atrocities of terror of maiming and killing of innocent Nigerians and destruction of public and private properties, most especially in the South Eastern part of Nigeria".

"We have also watched in utter disbelief how convicted and international terrorist Nnamdi Kanu since 2015 has engaged in theatrics of all sorts to stall his arraignment through frivolous and vexatious petitions that prolonged his trial and which he capped up with his unruly and disrespect to the court conduct as always today, that made the trial judge to order the security operatives to walk him out of court in line with judicial rules and procedures.

The group commended the judiciary for standing up on the side of truth and justice by enduring the provocations, tantrums and disrespect shown to it by international terrorist Nnamdi Kanu and his legal team until he dismissed them while the trial lasted.

It stated that "Justice James Omotosho of the federal high court Abuja, must be specially commended for his patience, perseverance, diligence and forthrightness in the handling of the terrorism trial and for dispensing justice to the society and victims of Nnamdi Kanu instigated terror in the South Eastern part of Nigeria and in Lagos during the 2020 EndSARS protest of anarchy by the conviction and sentencing of the international terrorist".

The group also said, with this conviction and sentencing of international terrorist Nnamdi Kanu and ISWAP commander Husseni Ismaila only recently and many others in the past, as well as the relentless war against terrorism and other forms of criminality being waged by our security agencies across the country, "The Nigerian State is hereby sending a clear message to the world that it's war against terrorism will be aggressively waged and won within the ambit of the rule of law, no matter how long it takes".

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Thank you.

Yours Sincerely,
E-signed,

Nelson Ekujumi.
