TRADOC NA PROMOTES READING CULTURE, ENHANCES KNOWLEDGE BASED AMONG TROOPS AND DONATES EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TO SCHOOLS





The Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA) on  16 September, 2025, hosted a Library Day Study Period themed "Regenerating Knowledge Based Nigerian Army Personnel in a Dynamic Society for Effective Military Service."  The Study Period was designed to sustain knowledgeable military personnel with the ability to learn complex tasks, adapt to new technologies and make informed decisions. The event, held at the TRADOC NA Auditorium in Minna Military Cantonment, Minna in Niger State, aimed at  refreshing the minds of NA and other participants personnel on the importance of library towards stimulating a reading culture for enhanced troops development and staff efficiency.


In his opening remarks, the Commander, TRADOC NA, Major General Kevin Aligbe who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event urged all participants to embrace a sustained library culture that supports the  ongoing training, research, and personnel development. He emphasised that the library is designed to cultivate critical thinking and problem solving skills among NA personnel. The Library Day Study Period, he noted, was intended to reinvigorate the reading habits of NA personnel and showcase the innovative application of knowledge acquired through a dedicated reading culture.


Major General Aligbe further reiterated that the forum aligned with the current drive for training, research and innovation all aimed at enhancing the educational development of the NA soldier with a focus on modern approaches to library application in the age of technological advancement. 


Additionally, the Special Guest of Honour emphasised that  the current operating environment which has increasingly been digitalised through tools like artificial intelligence requires constant training to keep up the trends in providing platform for the discussion on reading culture and the impact of artificial intelligence.


Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Army Training Support Centre (DATSC), Major General Auwal Mahmuda, welcomed participants and encouraged them to focus on reviving the reading culture of NA personnel in the era of artificial intelligence through the utilization of library resources. He further stated that the event was  part of the Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army's efforts to positively impact knowledge on its personnel and  enhance their skills to effectively serve the nation.


Beyond promoting reading culture within its ranks, TRADOC NA extended its efforts to the schools within Minna Military Cantonment.


High point of the event was  the presentation of over 28,000 books and other  essential educational  materials such as rulers, biros, erasers  to Government Army Day Secondary School, Army Day Children School, Command Children School  and NAOWA Nursery and Primary School. The presentation was the third in the series since the establishment of the TRADOC Educational Support Programme in 2023 aimed at subsidizing education in Minna Military Cantonment.
