Urologists celebrate Prof. Ajibola Jeje  on retirement 

 



The Urology unit, Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, University of Lagos  and Lagos Teaching Hospital  has celebrated Prof Ajibola Jeje upon his retirement from the academia at the age of 70 years.


Jeje, who joined the academia impacted many lives and over 40 mentees in different health institutions nationwide. 


Scores of his colleagues eulogised his leadership style, praising his ability to mentor younger urologists under his supervision for effective outcomes.



Prof Wasiu Adeyemo, Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH)  hailed Jeje for his exceptional leadership within the short period he served noting that he joined at the age of 52 years.



Adeyemo said that experts and top echelon of the university are celebrating Jeje at retirement because of his impactful roles  while in service.


He said that the message they were trying to pass across was that if you do well, you are going to be celebrated.



Also speaking, the chairman of the event, Prof. Suleiman Giwa, professor of Orthopedics and Trauma said that when you retire with honour and you impacted positively on the younger ones,  it was not out of place to be celebrated.


Giwa said that Jeje has impacted positively on a lot of people, lots of his juniors and has trained a lot of Urologists.


He said that he deserved all the accolades poured on him.



He said that there was no doubt that he has touched many urologists including undergraduates as well noting that he was a good teacher and mentor.



Also, Prof. Rufus Ojewola, Consultant Urologist, LUTH  and an Associate Professor of Surgery , Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, said that they are here to celebrate a mentor and an icon per excellence in the person of Prof. Jeje.



Ojewola said that the retiring professor of surgery  has touched so many lives in a positive way.


He said that he contributed in so many ways to training in Nigeria, man power development in the area of surgery particularly in the area of Urology which was his specialisation.


The associate professor said that Jeje has been responsible for the training of more than 40 Urologists in his years of active service which was no joke to shaping lives.



He said that the mentees of this great Icon (home and abroad) felt that the only way to honour him was to celebrate him as he exits active service hence celebrating him in a wonderful way.



"Prof Jeje is almost everything to us, he is a mentor who lived by examples, who has the interest of his mentees in mind , available and provided the real guide that made many of us to be what we are today " Ojewola said.



Responding, elated Jeje who was full of gratitude  said that the honour was humbling in the sense that he never taught that he has made so much impact on the younger fellows that had come his way.



He said that a lot of people had also made impact in his life and he believed it was time to give back.


"Looking back through the years, Urologists need a lot of advocacy, awareness and lots of government support in such a way that those who has trained to look after our people will not run away.



"The major problem we have now is that we have a lot of people, trained, skillful, knowledgeable but because of current circumstances are leaving the country " he said.



Jeje, however, appealed to government to looked into areas that trained experts would remain in the country.


Newsmen reports that goodwill remarks and presentation were sent from the National Association of Urological Surgeons, (NAUS) National Post Graduate Medical College, Heads of Departments, LUTH, mentees, urology consultant and Urology residents.
