*Demolition Notice: Group urges Ogun Gov to follow due process*

Barely days after the Ogun State Government issued contravention and demolition notices on three properties belonging to Senator Gbenga Daniel in Sagamu, the Mandate Protection Vanguard (MPV) has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to follow due process and desist from acts that may be perceived as politically motivated.

The appeal was contained in a strongly worded statement signed by the group’s leader, Alhaji Ade Olushoga, in reaction to what it described as an “unfortunate situation” in the state.

MPV noted that it had been closely monitoring developments and concluded that only mutual understanding and the rejection of politics of bitterness could resolve the disagreement between the two political heavyweights: Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Gbenga Daniel.

The group recalled that in 2023, a property belonging to Senator Daniel’s wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, was demolished under controversial circumstances (a case still pending in court) resulting in what it described as “wasted resources on an issue that could have been amicably resolved.”

“We have observed with consternation the attempt by Governor Dapo Abiodun, using the instrumentality of his office, to run Senator Daniel out of town,” the statement read. “The same pattern deployed in 2023, whereby the plaza of Yeye Olufunke Daniel was demolished, appears to be in play again. We say NO to this type of politics and urge the Governor to embrace due process and ensure that issues are resolved objectively.”

Describing Senator Daniel as “an elder statesman who has served Ogun State as a two-term governor and is currently a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with impactful contributions in the legislature,” MPV expressed shock that a member of the ruling party could be subjected to such treatment.

The group argued that the issuance of contravention and demolition notices simultaneously was a breach of procedure, noting that the law requires a contravention notice to be served first, followed by reminders, before any demolition order is considered.

“To avoid unnecessary litigation and prevent avoidable crises, we urge the Ogun State Government to desist from such actions,” the statement warned.

MPV concluded by calling on both parties to close ranks and work together for the development of the state as the 2027 general elections approach.
