In continuation of his familiarization tour of assessment of the state of Nigerian Railway Corporation stations and facilities for improved service delivery across the country, the Managing Director comrade Kayode Opeifa has warned people to stay away from Nigerian Railway Corporation properties and assets, that they are not scraps.

Comrade Kayode Opeifa who commenced his assessment visits from the Lagos district Mobolaji Johnson train station in Ebute Metta Yaba, Lagos in company of the management team and the media, went round the station, assessing the facilities from the boarding and departure lounge, to the convenience and even business stores within. While addressing the media thereafter, he made it known that the familiarization tour is meant to assess the state of the NRC facilities for greater service delivery in order to reposition the Nigerian railway system in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of the President Bola Tinubu administration 

The MD and his team then proceeded to the Western District to assess facilities at the Omi Adio, Moniya and Dugbe stations and facilities in Ibadan, Oyo State. At the Omi Adio station, Dr. Opeifa and his team were received by the western district management team and staff led by the Regional District Manager as well as the Director General of Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Dr. Seye Oyeleye who also came with his team to receive the August visitors and to seek areas of partnership and collaboration.


At Omi Adio station, comrade Opeifa went round the facilities just like he did at the Mobolaji Johnson station and directed the Regional District Manager (RDM) Engr. Mrs. Angeliq Ikwaku to rehabilitate the access road to the station for easy accessibility by commuters.

Dr. Opeifa also told the regional district manager that there is need to expand the size of the proposed freight yard as well as the construction of a business center for efficient rail logistics business. 


Comrade Opeifa also used the occasion to inform the Nigerian public that the Nigerian Railway Corporation is not only gender sensitive, but compliant with women holding senior management positions in the organization just as he went ahead to introduce the Regional District Manager ((RDM), District Superintendent (DS) and the District Medical Officer (DMO) of the western district of NRC who are all women.

Dr. Opeifa, his team and the DG of DAWN then proceeded to the Moniya train station and freight yard where an assessment tour was undertaken to assess the state of facilities. At the Moniya freight yard, comrade Opeifa emphasized the need for a rest house to be built to accommodate the convenience of drivers and other users of the facility for business with NRC.

At the Dugbe railway station in Ibadan, comrade Opeifa and his team in going round the facility, visited the goods shed among others, where the team were intimated with the state of facilities and operations of the the NRC and shown PXG wagons loaded with bags of cements from Ewekoro in Ogun State enroute for delivery to Ilorin in Kwara State via Oshogbo in Osun State on a regular basis.

Dr. Opeifa while conducting the management team and newsmen round the facility, reiterated that the Nigerian Railway Corporation properties and assets are not scraps, that they are serviceable materials, warning vandals to stay away from them in their own interest. He intimated newsmen with rail equipments that have been retrieved from the tracks for servicing and will be put back to use whenever the need arises.


At the end of the visit, the management team and staff of the Western District led by the Regional District Manager hosted the MD and his team, where they tabled their demands through their two labour unions, and were also obliged to ask questions. The Women in Rail (WIR) thanked the MD and his team for the visit and prayed for a successful and impactful tenure of the new administration. 

In response, comrade Opeifa promised that the President Bola Tinubu administration is determined to reposition the Nigerian Railway Corporation for economic prosperity, safe, convenient and secured transportation experience, while emphasizing that the new management under his leadership will birth a new era in terms of staff welfare, support and service delivery to the public. 

Comrade Opeifa while appreciating the workers for their sacrifices and commitment to duty, also lauded NRC partners for their diligence and hard work and promised that he will be back in Ibadan to flag off the standard gauge from Lagos to Kano soon.
