PRELIMINARY REPORT REGARDING A BURST HIGH PRESSURE WATER PIPELINE AT IDIROKO INWARDS MARYLAND, LAGOS
Following distress calls received via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency Lines at 1447hrs, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans and it's Emergency Response Team from the Onipanu Base.
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION:
Upon arrival of LASEMA's Cobra Response Team at the incident scene, a burst high pressure water distribution pipeline was discovered gushing water on the road.
CAUSE OF INCIDENT:
Preliminary investigations conducted by the Agency's Response Team at the scene revealed that the high-pressure water pipeline supplying water from Iju water station was found broken.
CASUALTY REPORT:
- No lives were lost due to the incident.
- No injuries were sustained to anyone as a result of the incident.
ACTIONS TAKEN:
- Officials of Lagos State Water Corporation has been activated and are present at the scene of incidence.
- Agency's Response Team is collaborating with officials of the Lagos State Water Corporation, and concerted efforts are ongoing to repair the burst high-pressure water pipeline quickly.
- The high-pressure water pipeline has been shut down at Iju water station.
- While awaiting reduction in water pressure, the LRT has conducted Risk Assessment on the incident and concluded that the flow of water from the road into the nearby main drainage system is capable of mopping up the water from the road and eliminating the risk of flooding in the area.
- LRT has activated necessary Safety and Traffic Control Measures in collaboration with other responders to ensure free flow of traffic in both directions of the highway.
