A Letter to Mr. Peter Obi By A Concerned Nigerian
Dear PeterObi
By Chibuzor Micheal
I was sincerely hoping that in 2025, you would be more strategic in your opposition and devout a little more time to carry out research on issues before you rush to post on social media for your fans.
First and foremost, there is nothing like NORTH CENTRAL REGIONAL COMMISSION. If you look at the nomenclature of other commissions that have been fully established, they are called DEVELOPMENT COMMISSIONS and not REGIONAL COMMISSIONS.
Secondly, you do not make budgetary provisions for entities that are not existing. Also you do not EXCLUDE what is not existing. In case you're not aware (which is POssible since you don't pay attention to happenings in government processes), the North Central Development Commission has not been created by law yet because the national assembly has not concluded legislative action on the bill.
The 10th Senate has passed the North Central Development Commission (establishment) bill but 10th House of Representatives are yet to do so. So, at the moment, there is no harmonised piece of legislation from the NASS that would be sent to the President for assent. It is only when you have the law in place that the bureaucratic processes of establishing the creation will commence and board members would be nominated by the President. It's at this point that you can be talking about making budgetary provisions for such a commission. 9th House of Reps passed the bill but it never got to the stage of presidential assent. So everything starts afresh in the 10th NASS (probably you don't know this too🤔).
So, my dear @PeterObi be calming down, don't jump the gun. When the North Central Development Commission is eventually created, the President will send a supplementary budget to the NASS that will accommodate funding for the new commission. Tinubu knows that the North Central requires special attention due to the severe challenges they face today but that does not mean earmarking money for a non-existent commission.
If Tinubu had made provisions for a North Central Development Commission in the budget when it has not been legally established, I'm sure you will still sew another righteous thread accusing the Tinubu administration of not following DUE PROCESS.
I understand you're worried that the Christian part of North Central is increasingly becoming comfortable with the Tinubu administration. Insecurity is reducing drastically in the region, the fears you stoked in 2023 elections season about the Muslim-Muslim ticket seem not to have materialised and their eyes have opened literally. You fear that North Central will massively vote for Tinubu in 2027 and therefore you want to be seeing as speaking for the zone to retain the support of the predominantly Christian bloc ahead of 2027.
There are other ways to keep your stronghold in the North Central (the first two states you listed 😜) instead of this sort of embarrassing aluta posturing for the North Central that has no basis whatsoever at this point.
It's never late to change your tactics Okwute Ndigbo. Get a more competent team around you. Dr. Mo, Aisha Yesufu and co are obviously not competent as seen in your various gaffees. You can do better as an opposition in this 2025.
Happy New Year 👍
