HEDA Opens Applications for Executive Courses on Good Governance, Anti-Corruption, and Human Rights, Starting January 2025

The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) is calling for applications for its newly launched Executive Short Courses on Good Governance, Anti-Corruption, and Human Rights, beginning January 2025. Developed in partnership with the University of Lagos (UNILAG Consult Ltd) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), these courses aim to equip individuals and organizations dedicated to transparency and accountability with critical knowledge and skills to drive positive change across Nigeria’s governance landscape.

According to HEDA’s Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, the nine-month program to be delivered in a hybrid format, combining in-person and virtual sessions is designed to equip participants with the expertise needed to address pressing governance issues, combat corruption, and address illicit financial flows.

Suraju added, “Structured as a series of three-month courses, the program includes modules on Good Governance, Anti-Corruption and Human Rights, and Illicit Financial Flow. Participants can enroll in individual course or complete all three for a diploma, with specialist certifications awarded in areas such as Human Rights, Public Governance, Anti-Corruption, and International Financial Flow.”

HEDA is extending the call for applications to policymakers, national anti-corruption agencies, law enforcement officers, civil society organizations, media practitioners, NGOs, private sector entities, scholars, and other stakeholders dedicated to fostering transparency and accountability. The program’s content is tailored to equip participants with essential skills to advance good governance, human rights, and anti-corruption measures within their organizations.

The application period will run for six weeks, from Monday, 4th November to Friday, 13th December 2024, while the program will commence on Monday, 9th January 2025. To promote inclusivity, HEDA will offer 10 full-tuition scholarships to qualified candidates from civil society, law enforcement, and media organizations. Scholarship applicants must submit a 1,000-word article detailing their contributions to human rights, good governance, or anti-corruption efforts, along with a CV, to info@hedang.org. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply via hedang.org/unilag-form.

This initiative marks a significant step by HEDA Resource Centre to empower professionals and institutions in Nigeria to actively engage in promoting democracy and curbing corruption.
