NCF, S.P.E partner to plant trees in Lagos School to promote environmental sustainability
The Nigerian Conservation Foundation in partnership with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) recently planted trees at the Victoria Island Junior Secondary School in Lagos to promote environmental sustainability.
Newsmen reports that the exercise tagged: "Tree Planting for Environmental Sustainability," was carried out by SPE Lagos Section 61 in partnership with NCF.
Mr Osinulu Adedayo, Principal of the school, expressed gratitude to NCF and SPE for choosing the school for tree planting.
Adedayo gave the commitment of the school to the nurturing of the trees for environmental sustainability.
He called on Nigerians to imbibe the culture of tree planting to mitigate the impact of climate change.
He noted that the trees provide shade for the school.
Also speaking, Mrs Adedamola Ogutuga, Environmental Education Department of NCF said that trees were important to the wellbeing of man.
Ogutuga noted that indigenous trees were planted such as cashew, almond, etc, adding that the tree planting exercise was done planted in five states across the country.
She urged the children to nurture the trees for the sustenance of the environment
On his part, Engr. Felix Owalala, of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, underscored the importance of giving back to environment for the sake of sustainability.
"As we explore for gas , we also give back to the environment.
"We take environmental sustainability seriously.
"The environment must not be depleted because without it, we cannot survive," Owalala said
It will be recalled that NCF, the foremost environmental conservation NGO has been at the forefront of restoring the country to its original forest cover through its Green Recovery Nigeria Project.
The foundation for over four decades and counting has been championing afforestation, biodiversity restoration and conservation efforts across the country.
