The day 3 of Ounje Eko food discount market of 25% reduction in the prices of basic foodstuffs like rice, beans, garri, crates of egg, loaf of bread, pepper, tomato and onions, today 29th March 2024, which is Good Friday according to the Christian doctrine witnessed a large turnout of Lagosians at the various centres scattered around the 3 senatorial zones of Lagos State.

Recall that the Ounje Eko food discount market kicked off in the state on the 17th of March 2024, a Sunday and has become known as the Sunday market for Lagosians to access cheap foodstuffs at subsidized prices by the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.

However, today's Friday edition of the market had to be shifted from the regular Sunday due to the Easter festivities of which today is good Friday in order to allow the sellers, buyers and other stakeholders observe Easter Sunday in line with religious doctrines.

Despite the backward shift in day from Sunday to Friday, today's 3rd edition of the Ounje Eko food discount market saw buyers coming out in large numbers to access the available foodstuffs at this Easter festivities period.

The Ounje Eko food discount market centers as usual had full complements of officers and men of the Nigeria police force, Nigeria security and civil defense Corp (NSCDC), and the Lagos State neighborhood safety Corp (LNSC) providing security and maintaining law and order, while the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) ensured free flow of traffic within the markets environments.

Our correspondent visited and spoke to some of the traders and buyers at some of the centres at St Andrews Anglican Pry and Nur School, church bus stop, Ayobo Ipaja LCDA and Oke Odo primary school, Oke Odo, Ile Epo in Agbado Oke Odo LCDA, commended the Lagos State government for this initiative which they look forward to on a weekly basis as an avenue to cushion their economic plight by accessing subsidized foodstuffs and at the same time in their show of appreciation, called on the government to allow the discounted foodstuffs market to be a continuous exercise because of it's impact on the wellbeing of the people.
