As the Ounje Eko Food Discount Market Programme Begins in Lagos
The Ounje Eko Food Discount Market programme of 25% reduction in the prices of basic food stuffs like rice, beans, garri, crate of eggs, pepper, tomato and wholesome bread kicked off across the 57 local government council areas and local council development areas of Lagos State, and our correspondent visited Owoseni primary school in Adeyemi Street Oshodi local government council area to monitor the programme and reported that there was a large turnout of buyers who came out to purchase the discounted food items for sale at one of the venues in the LG.
The process which went on smoothly at the centre also witnessed the presence of the Oshodi local government council chairman Mr Kehinde Almaroof who led some members of the local government council administration to monitor the sales of foodstuffs which was done to all and sundry devoid of ethnic, religious, political party affiliation and other sentiments.
The Ounje Eko food discount market in Oshodi local government council area was also monitored by the executives and members of the Community Development Association (CDA) who commended the Lagos State government for this laudable exercise meant to cushion the economic reality of the masses and called on the Lagos State government to make it a continuous project for the sake of the people, just as they demanded for more.
Security agencies comprising officers and men of the Nigeria police force and the Lagos State neighborhood security agency provided security to ensure that the process went on smoothly.
As at 5.10pm today Sunday 17th March 2024 when our correspondent was leaving the venue of the sales, Owoseni primary school Oshodi, the only product available for sale was bread, as every other item had been sold out.
